The southern Côtes-du-Rhône vineyard extends from Montélimar to Avignon over the departments of Drôme, Ardèche, Vaucluse, and Gard, the later the most eastern department of the Occitanie region.
The region is planted on both sides of the Rhône river as it flows to the Mediterranean Sea, on hillsides and plateaus at various altitudes. Rhône Valley vineyards found in Occitanie are located in the Gard department on the right banks of the Ardèche and Rhône rivers.
