A special thanks goes out to the late great Guy Lavignac, ampelographer and author of Cépages du Sud-Ouest, 2000 ans d’histoire (Grape Varieties of the Southwest, 2000 years of history), a thesis written under the coordination of Annick Audiot and supported with photos by Gilles Cattiau. Grape varieties presented on this site are largely based upon their work.

Guy Lavignac developed a passion for ampelography at a very early age working in his family vineyard. A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Agriculture de Montpellier, and former regional delegate of the National Interprofessional Office for Wines (Onivins), Guy Lavignac actively participated in the creation of a National Catalogue of French Grape Varieties.

Anxious to deepen the evolution of the great families of Vitis Vinifiera and to safeguard plant heritage which, over the centuries, has contributed to the reputation of wines from the Southwest, Guy initiated the creation of a Regional Conservatory of Grape Varieties in 1990.

Annick Audiot, a research engineer at INRA in Toulouse, has been working on the preservation of genetic resources since 1977. She participated in the creation of the Conservatoire du Patrimoine Biologique Régional de Midi-Pyrénées, which she has been leading since 1989. She is the author of the book “Races d’hier pour l’élevage de demain” (1995) and several other popular publications. She was actively involved in the realization of this book.

Gilles Cattiau, author of several photographic albums, develops a reflection on the role of scientific imagery. He is in charge of Image Communication at INRA Midi Pyrénées.

Cuisine

Chef – animator – author – content creator, Fabrice Mignot is a culinary craftsman and author of the Petit Livret Gourmand du Sud-Ouest !

Year-round, Fabrice presents his culinary chronicle on France 5’s TV show, La Quotidienne. He also manages with his partner, Guillaume Corona, a culinary content creation agency, Spatule Prod’, that presents his latests creations and achievements.

Fabrice and Spatule Prod’ have graciously granted permission to present their recipes on this site.


Partnerships

Through a partnership with the nascent southwest chapter of the European American Chamber of Commerce (EACC) and the Toulouse Business School (TBS), we are developing relationships with wine professionals in the region.

MSc, Marketing Management and Communication students are currently working on projects with two wineries and one large cooperative in Southwest France. Amongst the objectives are to improve and increase digital marking capabilities and elaborate marketing plans to further development in the US market, which is very large but also very complex.
